The Department of Water Services, Public Works Department expressed regret to the residents of RPN Meragang and surrounding areas for inconveniences caused by water supply shortages since July 15.
On July 14, around 7.25pm, the telemetry systems for the Meragang service reservoir was struck by lightning thus causing temporary loss of power and the complete failure of the telemetry system. Power was restored shortly after but the telemetry system was only able to be restored by July 16 around 9am, preventing the department's staff from being able to monitor and control the reservoir levels and pumping system during that period.
Water supply was interrupted since July 15 when the Meragang service reservoir experienced low water levels.
The department is currently undertaking several efforts to restore and stabilise the water supply situation, however during this time, residences in the areas concerned and especially those on higher ground will be experiencing low water pressure or intermittent water supply. It is doing its best to stabilise the water supply and deploy water tankers to serve the affected areas.
In a press release, the Public Works Department urged the residents residing in the affected areas to use water prudently and report to the Darussalam hotline 123 if they see any leaks, or have any water-related complaints.
The department thanked residents at RPN Meragang and surrounding areas for their patience and support.
