Wushu Athlete Suffered Setback at 18th SUKMA Games

PETRA JAYA, KUCHING
Brunei Darussalam wushu athlete Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan finished in 7th place out of 22 entries in the nanquan event in the 18th Sukma (Malaysia Games) at the SJK Chung Hua No 3 in Padungan yesterday.
Mohammad Adi Salihin recorded a score of 9.32 points in the event won by Calvin Lee Wai Leong of Negeri Sembilan with 9.56 points.
In the taijiquan female category, Ang Guat Lian finished 10th out of 16 entries after registering a score of 9.10 points in an event won by Chan Lu Yi of Pulau Pinang with a score of 9.64 points.
Meanwhile in the swimming event, Ashley Chai Xin Rou missed out on the women's 50m backstroke final by a single spot after finishing 9th out of 17 entries with a time of 33.87s at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya.
The top eight qualifiers progressed to the finals in the medal contention round which was eventually won by Selangor's Caroline Chan Zi Xin with a new Games record with a time of 30.18s.
The Selangor ace shattered the old record which was a time of 30.34s previously set in Kuantan, Pahang in 2012.
The top three in the preliminaries remained unchanged in the finals as Selangor's Fatin Amira binti Ahmad Hadri claimed silver and Chris Tan Li Ling settled for bronze.
Ashley Chai's compatriot Nur Haziq Samil finished 12th out of 13 entries managing a time of 2:10.38s in the men's 200m freestyle.
Selangor's Yeap Zheng Yang won the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:52.29s while Keith Lim Kit Sem of Wilayah Persekutuan grabbed silver with a time of 1:54.47s.
Selangor's Tan Yun-Hung improved his fifth-place finish in the preliminaries to bronze after recording a swim time of 1:55.68s.
