Monarch Lead Polo Team to Victory

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam inspired the Brunei Polo team to glory in a memorable sporting affair in the Polo Tournament in conjunction with the 70th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 2016.

 

Among those who watched the thrilling match at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

 

His Majesty and the Brunei Polo team beat Ahmibah team led by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah 4-1 to win the coveted Gold Cup.

 

His Majesty was joined by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen and Her Royal HighnessPrincess ‘Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah in the Brunei Polo team. Also a part of the Ahmibah team was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar.

 

The All-Stars team led by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul 'Ali Yil-Kabier bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz guided his team to a narrow 5-4 win over the police/ army team in the quest for the Silver Cup.

 

In the Gold Cup final, His Majesty opened the scoring before world number one polo player Adolfo Cambiaso doubled the advantage.

 

The Ahmibah team pulled one back through Pehin Orang Kayak Maharaja Diraja Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Wahab bin Haji Md Said in the second chukka while neither team found a goal in the third chukka.

 

However, His Majesty added two more goals in the fourth chukka to effectively seal the win for the Black Team.

 

Later, His Majesty received the Gold Cup trophy from His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

 

Also, the Ahmibah team was added star quality with the inclusion of Argentine pool player Pablo Macdonough who has been a constant fixture in the polo scene.
