Laos will be the host of the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) 2016 in Vientiane Capital on 5-6 September during the ASEAN Summit.

Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Thanongsinh Kanlagna made the announcement at a press conference on July 15.

ASEAN Business Awards are given in recognition of outstanding enterprises of ASEAN countries as a means of spreading knowledge about the ASEAN Economic Community to the world, Mr Thanongsinh.

He said that the ABAs are also meant to inspire and rally ASEAN businesses to participate and become key players in the broader market, and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of enterprises and SMEs in the ASEAN Economic Community.

This year’s ABAs include the SME Excellence Awards, the Young Entrepreneur Award, the Women Entrepreneur Award, and Outstanding Women Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. There will also be Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) Awards, and the Friend of ASEAN Award, Mr Thanongsinh added.

The ABA ceremony was launched for the first time in 2007 and since then it has served as a platform to showcase outstanding business practitioners in ASEAN.

The ASEAN Business Awards are presented to ASEAN business entities with outstanding performance in the ASEAN region and for having made significant progress in establishing and reinforcing their position in the international business arena.

The ASEAN Business Awards aim to profile ASEAN enterprises which have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the ASEAN economy as well as to spotlight promising ASEAN Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Young Entrepreneurs and Women Leaders to help them grow to become ASEAN multi-national corporations (MNCs) and potential global players in the future.
