Public Works and Transport Ministry to Cope with Right Turns at Red Lights

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport in Vientiane Capital is focusing on resolving the problems of traffic jams and road accidents, and especially the problem of right turns at intersections and three junctions when the lights are red, according to a senior official.

 

Over the past several months, many people have been confused about whether right turns are allowed when the lights are red.  As a result, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Vientiane Traffic Police Department, has surveyed places in Vientiane Capital and along Southern Road No 13 where traffic signs should be installed, according day meeting of Party members of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, participants reviewed the implementation of work by the Public Works and Transport Sector in the first six month of this year and the plan for the last six months of the year.

 

Director General of the Planning and Investment Department Mr Oulay Phadouangdeth highlighted the challenging issues of low quality roads, the management of national roads, technical aspects of bridge and road construction, and vehicle registrations that need to be settled over the last six months of the year.

Mr Lathtanamany said at meeting on July 7 that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has approved 400 billion kip for the renovation of national roads and the upgrade and repair of other roads and bridges for fiscal year 2015-2016.
