Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with the 30-year establishment of the university.

Held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, UTB, the ceremony were participated by 1,683 participants consisting of 172 academic and non-academic staffs, and 1,466 students from six faculties.

Present at the ceremony as the guest of honour was the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Associate Professor Dr. Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

The event began with mass recitation of Surah AI-Fatihah, followed with the recitation of verses from the Al-Quran by the participants, continued with the Doa Takhtim and Tahlil as well as Doa Khatam and Dikir Marhaban.

UTB was established in 1986 as the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB). In 2008, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to upgrade the institution to a university.

The name of the university was changed from ITB to UTB on March 1, 2016.
