MANILA, PHILIPPINES
A low-pressure area (LPA) over the West Philippine Sea was spotted some 435 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday reported.
Weather forecaster Jun Galang said that another LPA outside of Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) was spotted at 1,620 kilometers east of Mindanao.
It is expected to develop into a tropical depression and will enter PAR within the next 24 hours.
Once it intensifies into tropical cyclone, it will be locally named “Ambo,” the first to affect the country this year.
PAGASA said the two LPAs are embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which will bring occasional to frequent light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or early evening are expected to prevail until Monday over many parts of the country. (With a report from PNA)
