My Father Taught Me To Love, Help People – Senator

Former MCA State Liaison chairman Senator Wilfred Yong expressed his gratitude to the party’s top leaders for their support and understanding in the past year when his father Vincent Yong Ying Fah was ill.
Wilfred said he was thankful to MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong who had approved him taking leave from his post as the Sabah MCA chairman so that he can take care of his father.
They had also helped him to get the best treatment for his father in his battle with cancer in the past year.
“I took leave from the post since last year to take care of my father and to get him the best treatment available for his cancer. My gratitude goes out to those who have helped me during that difficult time especially to Datuk Seri Liow and Datuk Dr Wee who had also taken care of MCA Sabah during my absence,” Wilfred said.
“Thanks to Liow’s kind consideration, I had more time to be with my father and supported him through the ordeal. My father’s determination in battling cancer was admirable. I am grateful for being able to stay by his side during tough times and in his final journey of life.
“My father taught me a lot especially about life and one of legacies I am proud to carry on is that he taught me to love people and to help them in any way I can. My father’s passing left a void in my life but I will carry on his legacy,” he added.
Wilfred also thanked the individuals who had shown kindness and sympathy when his 72-year-old father succumbed to liver cancer on June 19, which coincided with the latter’s birthday and Father’s Day.
Among those who came to pay their last respects at the funeral parlour and funeral service were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Deputy Education Minister cum MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon, Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang and Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, Tan Sri Henry Chin, Tan Sri Joseph Lo, Datuk Sia Hiong Tee and Datuk Christinus SF Chiu.
Chong in expressing his sympathies to Wilfred had said that the latter was a son who has much love and filial piety for his parents.
“I hope that once everything is settled, he will return to his duties as the party really needs him,” Chong added.
Wilfred also thanked friends and relatives who have lent their assistance to his family during the past year, including those who have donated blood for his father.
“My gratitude also goes to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I for all that they have done for my father,” he said.
He also reminded youngsters nowadays to cherish and make time for their families.
