Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran, champion of Category 'C' of the National Level Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding Competition 2016, expressed how he was both happy and nervous while reciting the Al-Quran in front of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during the National-Level Nuzul Al-Quran Ceremony 1437H held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas last Wednesday.
When asked on what is needed for a person to memorise the Al-Quran, he said that they should be determined and they should benefit from the support and trust from parents.
"Recitations should be repeated apart from utilising electronic mediums such as the Al-Quran radio stations to improve reading and memorisation. They should also make use of free time such as school holidays and recite the Al-Quran after prayers," he said.
In an interview, his father, Mohd Saiful Ashreen bin Mohd Janai, expressed how proud he was of his son's achievement and how he had proven that his wish to succeed was not an impossible task.
His mother, Dr Hajah Noorsuhana binti Haji Sulung, shared that support has to be given to the children and to ensure they review their recitations and understanding of the verses.
When asked on the method of giving advice, they said that their son was a disciplined child to begin with and he always knew how to utilise his free time which they believe was the secret to his success.
"We also brought in an Al-Quran teacher to assess his recitation and memorisation and it has proved to be beneficial," she said.
