Housing developer and philanthropist, Datuk Susan Wong, has been appointed as Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents’ (SATTA) Goodwill Ambassador.
Susan, when asked to comment on the appointment, said that she is very honoured to be given the opportunity to help promote the tourism industry in Sabah.
Speaking to reporters after receiving her appointment at the SATTA annual dinner cum launching of the association’s Almanac 2016 on Saturday night, Susan said she will do her best to help boost the promotion of the state’s tourism attractions.
“The appointment shows that SATTA recognizes the contribution I can give to the tourism sector. It also ref lects that they see my potential other than just being a housing developer,” Susan said.
“I know that there are many beautiful places to visit in Sabah and we are well known for eco-tourism. We are also well known for our history and culture so we should also look into this.
“Firstly, I have to enrich myself with all the tourism attractions of Sabah. I am tied up with my work as a developer and with my associations, but it is time for me to tour around Sabah and f ind out what more it has to offer,” she said, adding that she has been introducing Sabah to her friends from China and Brunei Darussalam.
Susan added that as the Malaysia Jiangmen Association president, she usually holds the association’s meetings here in Sabah and will also arrange short tours for t hose who attended.
“In the past few years, I have also organized a few world congress events in Sabah like the World Jiangmen Youth Congress in 2012 which attracted many people from all over the world.
Jiangmen is my late father’s hometown and they are also promoting Sabah there. They will be appointing me as their ambassador for this coming Jiangmen Youth event in Jakarta Indonesia,” she said.
Susan added that she will be taking up SATTA chairman Datuk Seri Winston Liaw’s suggestion that she create a website as part of her efforts to promote Sabah.
