The app will provide reliable information to football fans travelling to the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.
Heading for Euro 2016? A new app from the French government will help keep you informed about potential terrorist attacks during the high-profile football tournament.
SAIP (Système d'alerte et d'information des populations) is designed to help keep people safe during the UEFA Euro 2016 soccer tournament kicking off on Friday in France. Because it's an official government project, users can rely on the app for information rather than turning to social media where potentially false information could spread.
The app uses your phone's location services to see where you are and alert you if there's a problem in your area. You can also check for alerts in other areas to check up on friends and family.
The French Interior Ministry has created the app in response to terror attacks in November 2015 that left 130 people dead. US, UK and French governments have cautioned that the tournament could be a target for attacks.
SAIP is available in French and English. You can download the app for free on iOS and Android devices.
