The outfit for members of the nation’s General Operations Force (GOF) should be standardised.

Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman said he had always wanted to see GOF personnel properly wearing the uniforms issued to them.

“I am glad that those at the Sarawak GOF brigade in Batu Kawah have complied with my first instruction after taking over the department recently.

“I have also instructed the pennant for Sarawak GOF be changed due to fading,” he said before witnessing the handover of duties between outgoing Sarawak GOF commander SAC Datuk Isa Munir and his successor, SAC Khaw Kok Chin yesterday.

In another call, Muhammad Sabtu reminded GOF personnel who were transferred to the Batu Kawah brigade from the peninsula and Sabah to also learn, sing and respect the state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’.

“Be proud to serve as a member of GOF and at the same time, learn and respect the local culture of the place where you are posted to.

“Having said this, you must also perform your duties the best that you can, with sincerity and diligence,” he said, adding that he would also want the Batu Kawah chapter of Police Families Association (Perkep) to remain under Sarawak GOF.

Muhammad Sabtu also took the opportunity to thank and congratulate Isa for having put 38 years, 11 months and six days of his life into serving under GOF.

“I hope you would have no regrets throughout your long tenure in the force,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khaw said his posting in Sarawak GOF also marked his first time in the state. Previously, he served the northern brigade in Perak.

“I hope to have the support and cooperation from all members of Sarawak GOF throughout my tenure here.”

For Khaw, his focus would be on the welfare of his staff across all ranks, as well as the Perkep.

“It is crucial for all of us to work as one in upholding and safeguarding the image of the force. I will also be working closely with the Sarawak police contingent,” he said.

In his farewell remarks, Isa urged all members of Sarawak GOF to render their undivided support and loyalty to Khaw.

He also hoped that should GOF be absorbed into watching over border security, such exercise should come after thorough discussions and observation from all angles.

“This is to avoid any loophole that may jeopardise the nation’s security, particularly in Sarawak and Sabah,” he said.
