Matthayom 4 Scheduled For Mid Jun

 June 2nd, 2016  |  08:25 AM  |   1534 views

VIENTIANE, LAOS

The Department of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Sports has scheduled the leaving exam for Matthayom 4 students for June 14-16. “This academic year, there will be more than 94,700 students sitting in the leaving examination for lower secondary schools including 44,900 school girls. The exam will be conducted at 663examination centres across the country accommodating over 4,300 classrooms,” Mrs Sisouk Vongvichit, Director of Secondary Education Department, said in an interview on May 31.

When compared to last year, this year’s number of Matthayom 4 students eligible for the examination increased by 5,000. Four subjects have been listed for this year’s leaving exam namely: Lao language – literature, mathematics, civil studies, natural sciences and social sciences.

“The Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Department of Secondary Education in particular, have circulated instructions to the provincial and Vientiane Capital Departments of Education and Sports notifying them how to conduct the exam properly.

The Ministry of Education and Sports has asked for hands from the Ministries of Public Security and Post and Telecommunications to ensure that fewer forms of cheating are committed during the upcoming Matthayom 4 and 7 exit examinations (2015-2016 academic year).

The Ministry of Education and Sports has proposed that the Ministry of Public Security establish an ad hoc to monitor possible cheating by students and other parties during the examination.

The cooperation from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication will be its commitment to refrain from broadcasting internet signals at the examination stations across the country.

Last year’s spread of misacts during the leaving examination prompted relevant sectors to put in place stringent measures.

Following the spread of misacts including the forgery of exam sheets and the circulation of exam papers through social media tools namely WhatsApp, and Line, the scheduled examinations for mathermatics and history was postponed and exam papers were replaced with different ones.

Early last month, the Ministry of Education and Sports held a training session gathering officials in charge of the upcoming examination.

The session was held in the presence of Deputy Minister of Education Lytou Bouapao, Deputy Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Sports and Director of the Secondary Education Department Sysouk Vongvichit, and representatives from relevant ministries.
