Indonesian Sentenced to Jail for Overstaying

A forty-seven-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to jail for 10 months and three strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to a charge of overstaying in the country.
Narin Narulan's failed to produce a valid visitor pass when a team of immigration enforcement officers inspected his rented house at Kampong Sungai Tampoi, Sengkurong at 12.55 am on May 17, 2016.
Investigations revealed that the defendant's pass had expired on January 15, 2012. The defendant gave his passport to a person for extension of his pass and could not retrieve it until he was arrested.
Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah binti Hussain presided in the case.
