BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Brunei Press emerged champions at the 64th Anniversary Information Department Netball Championship after enjoying an unbeaten run in the entire competition, at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium Sports Hall of the Royal Brunei Police Force Headquarter yesterday.

Played in a round robin format, Brunei Press accumulated a total of 15 points with five victories out of five, with the Prime Minister's Office taking the runners-up spot after notching nine points with their only loss coming against the eventual champions.

Needing only a draw to capture the title after four successive victories, Brunei Press was confirmed champions after comfortably dispatching hosts Information Department I in a 13-4 win, which effectively put Prime Minister's Office out of the running for the title.

With the Prime Minister's Office holding a superior positive goal difference of 38 and Radio Televisyen Brunei having played their last game, second place was all sewn up even with defeat.

Last year's winners Radio Televisyen Brunei settled for third place after picking up nine points with their 6-5 win over Information Department II proving decisive as the latter occupied fourth spot with six points.

Information Department I took fifth spot with three points while Audit finished sixth without a point to their name.

Prime Minister's Office boasted the highest scoring record with 71 goals, two more than Brunei Press and hot II sharing the same number of goals conceded.

The top three of the tournament received a trophy each, medals and certificates while the bottom three were presented with a consolation trophy each and certificates.

The guest of honour at the event was Dayang Hajah Noorashidah binti Haji Aliomar, Acting Deputy Director of Information, who presented the prizes to the winners.
