Some 247 participants took part yesterday in the 2nd Bukit Markucing Challenge Run that was held at Tasik Sarubing Recreational Park, Kampung Belimbing Jalan Subok, in conjunction with the 32nd National Day celebration.

The flag-off and prize presentation (comprising medals, electrical goods and certificates) to winners was done by Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

In his welcoming speech, Legislative Council (LegCo) member and the Village Head of Kg Belimbing, YB Awang Haji Gapor @ Haji Mohd Daud bin Karim, said that the challenge run was one of Kg Belimbing Village Consultative Council's (MPK) annual activities.

It aimed to promote the area as a nation ecotourism destination and an appropriate place for sports and recreational activities, such as jogging and cross-country race, and to foster closer relationships between invited guests, participants and committee members, while at the same time promoting 'One Village, One Product - Hiking Village'.

This year, a total of 10 categories were contested, covering distances that range from 3.5 kilometres to 5.7 km. Each of the top five winners in the respective categories received electrical goods, certificate and medal.

For the men open category, the champion was Sefli anak Ahar, followed by Mastani bin Mohd Yussof and Zainor Sam bin Md Zain in second and third place respectively. The women open category was won overall by Marnie Farizan Ahmad, followed respectively by Maggie Rait and Radiah Mardiah binti Haji Bony.

For the men 40-55 years category, the winner was Haji Jupli bin Haji Pangis, followed by Haji Mohd Azmi bin Haji Suhaili and Shahrin bin Haji Karim in second and third place respectively. For the women 40-55 years category, the first place winner was Siti Fatimah, followed respectively by Airince Liam and Hajah Azahrina.

The men 7-12 years category champion was Muhd Edi Suhardi bin Rudi, followed by Nur Aiman bin Norasmali and Muhd Dini Suhardi bin Rudi in second and third place respectively. For the women 7-12 years category, the winner was Siti Nur Rozwina Syazwini, followed respectively by Nur Suryana Hartini binti Rudi and Nurdiya Fasha binti Danial.

For the women 16-25 years category, the top three winners were Bibi Marcella binti Kula, Norfarahin binti Nordin and third Noramirah binti Haji Tinggal respectively. In the men 16-25 years category, the three winners were respectively Awangku Nordinie Ayasy @ Awangku Hadi bin Pengiran Ibrahim, Mohd Nazrul Effendy bin Ali Hassan and Mohd Akram bin Mohd Akbal.
