BRUNEI-MUARA

A total of 127 imams were given their letters of appointment to lead in Sunnat Tarawikh' prayers during the month of Ramadhan.

Imams, mosque officers and students from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, were given the responsibility by Awang Haji Zulkifli bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as guest of honour in a ceremony at the auditorium of the Pengiran Anak Puteri Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School, yesterday.

Other attendees also included senior officers and staff from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

A Murattal session was presented by Awangku Mohd Ashin Afif bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain.

Prior to the presentation of letters, chairman of the ceremony Awang Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, in his welcoming address said that the imams have been designated to 66 mosques in the Brunei-Muara District, Tutong District and the Belait District to fulfil their duties as official imams for the Sunnat Tarawikh' prayers.

This responsibility will enable the imams to refresh their Al-Quran recitations and to enhance their knowledge in the recitation of the Al-Quran.

It is hoped that with the participation of the imams, more congregants will attend the Sunnat Tarawikh' prayers.

The imams were also given relevant theoretical and practical sessions in Aqwal wa Af 'aal Sembahyang Tarawikh' before receiving their appointment letters.

The sessions will generate skills required in relevance to the duties as imams, added Haji Abdul Rajid.
