The Court of Appeal recently dismissed an application of a man who outraged the modesty of his own daughter after finding the sentence imposed by the Intermediate Court to be a fitting punishment.
The security personnel committed the offence at his home on April 30, 2016 when his daughter was 13 years old, similar to another offence committed earlier sometime in 2014 when his daughter was 11.
He pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to a total of three years, six months' jail and three lashes.
"The judge clearly recognised the gravity of the offences and the serious effect on the family in deciding that a custodial sentence was inevitable," said the President of the Court of Appeal John Barry Mortimer, sitting with Justices Burrell and Seagroatt, in coming to a conclusion in the appeal.
DPP Norhayati Omar appeared as respondent in the appeal.
