BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

Brunei Darussalam have their eyes on the final of the Malacca National Tug of War Championship this weekend.

The 10-member team led by manager Haji Salleh bin Haji Osman will compete in two categories of 600kg (indoor) and 640kg (outdoor).

Teams expected to take part are from Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and host Malaysia.

Awang Haji Salleh said the team had been training for a month ahead of the championship.

"Our target is to reach the final," he said, adding that Malaysia's police team "are the hot 'favourites.

Two years ago, Brunei won first place for indoor and second place in the outdoor event in Singapore.

After Malacca, the team is looking to train for the upcoming Asean / Asia tug of war championship at the end of the year.
