IBTE Renamed Training Centres

 May 27th, 2016  |  10:26 AM  |   3237 views

GADONG, MUKIM BERAKAS A

The Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) yesterday announced the renaming of training centres under IBTE during a press conference at the IBTE Headquarters in Gadong.

Speaking with the media during the event were Haji Mohd Fadzillah bin Haji Abdullah, Divisional Director of Corporate Affairs of IBTE; Dr Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Principal of IBTE Central; and Norjemee bin Jenek, Principal of IBTE Satellite.

Haji Mohd Fadzillah first spoke on IBTE's official logo, stating that IBTE has been undergoing a transformation process since 2014, and part of the transformation plan was the consolidation of its educational institutions and rebranding under one name - IBTE.

"The rebranding gives us new recognition and projects a more positive image of technical education in the country, reflecting the current and future direction of IBTE in its dynamic role in realising the aspirations of Brunei Darussalam in achieving its Vision 2035," he said.

The renaming of the training centres under IBTE and the formation of the two networks of schools were given approval through a warkah from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Office as stated in its minutes from the Minister of Education dated April 16, 2016. The new official logo has been endorsed and is now part of IBTE's new corporate identity where all existing logos of training centres under IBTE will be taken down and replaced by the official IBTE logo effective of July 1.

The divisional director added that the training centres under IBTE will now be known as campuses, such as - IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus (formerly known as Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College), IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus (formerly known as Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College), IBTE Nakhoda Ragam Campus (formerly known as Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School), IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus (formerly known as Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School), IBTE AgroTechnology Campus (formerly known as Wasan Vocational School), IBTE Business Campus (formerly known as Business School), and IBTE Mechanical Campus (formerly known as Mechanical Training Centre).

The former names will no longer be used in any correspondence, publication, events and so on.

"This move is one of the strategic initiatives under the transformation of the technical and vocational education in Brunei, which aims to raise the technical and vocational education's image in a more attractive light," said Haji Mohd Fadzillah.

He also said that it enables the public to see IBTE as an alternative career pathway, reflecting not only the importance of technical education in national development, but also projecting a more positive perception of the education system to the public where each campus offers equal levels of courses.

Hence, to consolidate the seven training centres under the revamped system, the word `vocational' has been omitted and the term IBTE added to each campus to unify the management and administration of the institute as well as to align all the seven campuses under one umbrella.
