Automotive Executive, Public Servants Denied Charges of Graft

Chan Key Hong, Maju Motors Executive Director and two building inspectors from the Town and Country Planning Department of the Ministry of Development pleaded not guilty to charges of graft and bribery at the Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The charges were brought about after investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau alleged that
Zamri bin Haji Jaludin and Pengiran Haji Baharuddin bin Pengiran Haji Md Tahir, Planning Inspectors at the Town and Country Planning Department, Ministry of Development, accepted BND90 from Chan Key Hong as an inducement for forbearing to continue to conduct a thorough inspection at Maju Motors for the purpose of renewing its workshop certification on August 30, 2011.
Chan Key Hong is charged with corruptly bribing public servants. While both Zamri and Pengiran Haji Baharuddin face the charge of accepting bribe money from Chan Key Hong.
Chan Key Hong also faces a charge of abetting the two Planning Inspectors.
Chan has hired defence counsels Rozaiman Abdul Rahman and Balendran Balasingam while the government servants hired defence counsel Pengiran Khairul Nizam bin Pengiran Haji Md Yassin.
Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli extended the defendant's bail of B$10,000 or in two local sureties while fixing a further mention on June 15 for trial dates to be set.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurjaunah Haji Kula represented the Public Prosecutor in the case.
