Senior Citizen Fined for Keeping Untaxed Cigarettes

A fifty-five-year-old local man pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to keeping smuggled cigarettes at his restaurant.

 

The defendant, Haji Mohd Pawzi bin Haji Tengah, was ordered to settle a B$4,000 fine within three months, or risk serving a three month sentence in jail in default of payment, for keeping five cartons and 46 packets of cigarettes at Rezky Azreen Restaurant, Bangunan Haji Mohd Pawzi bin Haji Awang Tengah, Masin, Bengkurong.

 

The Customs prosecutor informed Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli that inspectors checked the restaurant at 5.30pm on November 2012 where they found cigarettes hidden in the restaurant.
