BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

A delegation of nine officers and teachers from the Special Religious Education Unit of the Religious School Section at the Department of Islamic Studies yesterday left for a six-day intensive visit to the Special Education School, Pertuturan Kiu Kampong Pandan in Kuala Lumpur.

Present to send the delegation off at the Brunei International Airport was Awang Haji Mohd Sufri Sofian bin Haji Mat Umar, Head of the Special Religious Education Unit.

The head of the delegation, Dayang Hajah Normadiah binti Haji Bini, Assistant Head of Special Religious Education Unit, said in an interview that the visit is part of the special education religious teachers' initiative towards enhancing their skills in cued speeches following a cued workshop they attended in 2014.

She added that the objectives of the visit were to gain knowledge and experiences in the said field as well as its implementation in religious subjects including the Al-Quran and religious practices.

Apart from that, she also emphasised that the visit eyes to help the delegation in discussing and coordinating a cued code book for the use of teaching and learning for special needs students in hearing and speech in religious schools.

She hopes that the strengthening of the cued speech methods can help students with hearing and speech disabilities to recite the verses from the Al-Quran and do religious practices.
