Corrupt Company Manager Tried in Court

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
A Manager of Bustermite Pest Control was yesterday brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court to face a charge under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).
Investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) revealed that on July 23, 2014, at the vicinity of the 2nd floor of the Estate Management and Project Development Unit, Ministry of Health, the defendant - Robert Tan Giok Poh, a Singaporean - did corruptly give a gratification of a sum of BND300 and five 'Disney Aladdin on Skates' tickets to an Assistant Project Officer (Grade 1) of the Estate Management and Project Development Unit.
According to a press release from the ACB, the money and tickets were given by the defendant as a reward to the assistant project officer in processing a penultimate payment certificate for Bustermite Pest Control amounting to $141,610.80 in respect of a job concerning the eradication of termites at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait.
No plea was taken from the defendant.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered for the defendant to be released on BND10,000 bail or two local sureties; on the condition that he does not contact, directly or indirectly, any of the prosecution's witnesses.
Further mention of the case was fixed on June 22, 2016 at 10am.
The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Christopher Ng Ming Yew of the Attorney General's Chambers.
