To ensure optimal health among the people, multi-sectoral united action between the government and private sectors, communities as well as non-government agencies are needed for a programme's or intervention's success and efficacy. Speaking at the launch of the Healthy Mukim Programme organised by the Ministry of Health and Mukim Mentiri Consultative Council, the Minister of Health stressed that healthcare begins at home. And the people have a role and responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness of a mukim or village without waiting for government aid. The Healthy Mukim was held this morning at the Dato Mohd Yassin Primary School in the Mentiri National Housing Scheme. Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar also urged that focus should be given to capacity building among the community through a positive attitude and a positive mindset development through a holistic approach based on best practices.
The Minister of Health also looked forward to see more members of the society to become health ambassador, regardless of their age or social background. Those appointed are hope to become a catalyst and facilitator for local health promotion programmes and activities as well as to become a link between patients of local society with the Ministry of Health through the nearest health centre. The appointment of Mukim Mentiri's health ambassadors are in line with the programme theme of "Wargaku Sihat", which was inspired by the Consultative Council of Panchor Mengkubau National Housing Scheme.
Among activities lined during the programme were aerobic session, walkathon and health screening. The programme ran concurrently with the presentation of certificates of appointment to 12 health ambassadors to the mukim. The Healthy Mukim Programme aimed to increase public awareness on health issues such as healthy lifestyle and non-communicable diseases as well as services provided for the public at the hospital and health centres; dental service and eye clinic. Also present were Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health; Doctor Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif and Awang Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Health.
