BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Victims of recent fires expressed their gratitude to Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) after receiving donations yesterday.

Yayasan presented donations totalling BND$14,100 to four families that suffered from recent house fires.

One of the families was that of Dayang Hajah Zaliha binti Haji Safar in Perumahan Kampong Rimba, Gadong.

Speaking in an interview, she shared that her house suffered significant damage from a fire that took place towards the end of April.

The fire occurred while she and her husband were out of the house, and they were informed of the fire by their neighbours, who called the Fire and Rescue Department.

She said that a significant portion of the house was damaged by the fire, with a section now still without walls as they were burnt down. A large part of the house is now without electrical wiring.

She thanked Yayasan, saying, "We are very grateful and want to say thank you. This assistance will help us and ease our burden."

Another recipient was Awang Anuar bin Abdullah from Kampong Kenua, Jalan Temada in Temburong District.

He shared that his house was completely destroyed as the result of an electrical fire on April 28, which he said left only poles standing.

He expressed his thanks to Yayasan for providing them with the donation of financial assistance.

The family of King Chiew Phang of Kampong Sungai Paku in Tutong District was another to receive a donation yesterday. Speaking in an interview his daughter King Sau Yuen recounted the incident.

She shared the fire occurred just last week, and was actually a jungle fire, which burned through to a neighbour's farm as well as her father's house. The house was completely burnt down.

Sau Yuen said that her parents and brother lived in the house, but they have been staying at her home in Sengkurong since the fire occurred.

She added that her father intends to rebuild the house.

She expressed her gratitude to Yayasan, and noted that they had been very quick to provide assistance.

"I'm very thankful. They have been very helpful and very fast to get back to us," she said.

The Managing Director of Yayasan, Awang Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, presented the donations to the recipients yesterday.
