Iban Family of Six Embraced Islam

An Iban family of six embraced the Islamic faith yesterday at the home of Awang Jasdi bin Haji Abdul Ghafar in Jalan 64 RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan, Berakas, with the Acting Director of Forestry, Awang Haji Faisal bin Haji Yakup, as the event's guest of honour.
Mahdi anak Mawan, now known by his Muslim name Awang Muhammad Nur Syah Mahdi bin Abdullah Mawan, converted to Islam along with his wife and four children.
His wife Bebe anak Robart chose her new name to be Nur Aisyah Sofiyya binti Abdullah Robart.
Their 12-year-old daughter, Ayu Delaila anak Mahdi, has adopted the Muslim name of Dayang Ummi Syah Ghaziah Nadhirah binti Muhammad Nur Syah Mahdi, while sons Dexter anak Mahdi, 10, is now known as Awang Muhammad Syah Wa'iz bin Muhammad Nur Syah Mahdi; Lansam anak Mahdi, 6, now goes by Awang Muhammad Syah Junaidi Lansyam bin Muhammad Nur Syah Mahdi, and 5-month-old Mateen anak Mahdi is now Awang Muhammad Abdul Mateen Syah bin Muhammad Nur Syah Mahdi.
Their Syahadah was welcomed by a Dikir Marhaban and sprinkling of Bunga Rampai (scented flowers) by the guests.
The family was then presented with tokens of appreciation from the Islamic Da'wah Centre and Forestry Department by the guest of honour.
From January to December last year, 517 people converted to Islam nationwide, and from January to April 2016,190 converted - 78 people of whom were from the Brunei-Muara District.
