Police busted a drug laboratory processing methamphetamine and ecstasy pills inside an apartment unit in Jalan Mesjid Negri here.

Four men, aged between 25 and 54, were arrested when a police team stormed the unit at about 7.30pm on Monday.

Also seized were an assortment of drugs and raw materials worth RM1.63mil.

State police chief Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the police first arrested three suspects who were inside the unit when the raid was conducted.

“We found ecstasy pills, methamphetamine and heroin and some powder believed to be drugs.

“We also recovered several bottles of methamphetamine oil worth about RM1.4mil in the unit,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters in Penang Road yesterday.

Comm Thaiveegan said the police continued to monitor the apartment and they arrested the fourth suspect when he turned up at the unit.

“Investigations are still pending to determine if they were connected to other drug syndicates and also if there are any other members still at large.

“We are also looking for their members who helped them to distribute the drug,” he said, adding that the drug could be meant for other states.

Comm Thaiveegan said the suspects, who all have previous drug records, have been active for at least six months.

“They have since been remanded until March 26 to assist in our ongoing investigations.”
