His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam, NFABD yesterday morning graced the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy for ASEAN Youth Football Tournament 2018 Draw Ceremony. The tournament will take place starting on the 23rd of next month. The draw took place at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Communications who is also the Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Metassan bin Haji Tahir.

Awang Haji Mohammad Noor bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Co-Chairmen of the Tournament's Technical Committee in his welcoming speech among other matters expressed confidence that the 6th edition of the tournament will further strengthen the friendly relations and close cooperation among the participating ASEAN youth. He hoped that the tournament will produce high quality young players with calibre, apart from being a platform and stepping stone for amateur football players to become professionals.

The Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy for ASEAN Youth Football Tournament was officiated in 2002, and it is open to Under-21 football players from ASEAN member states as well as Timor Leste.

This year's tournament will see participation from Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste dan Brunei Darussalam as the host. In the draw, the host is placed in Group A along with Thailand, Myanmar and Timor Leste, while Lao People's Democratic Republic, Singapore and Cambodia are in Group B. The tournament's opening ceremony will take place on the 23rd of next month at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Brunei Darussalam was crowned as the tournament's champion in 2012. The tournament is organised uphold the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, of involving the best teams in the ASEAN regions to compete in the Southeast Asian football league.   Apart from the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, the tournament will also take place at the Track and Field, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
