TEMBURONG

In what was supposed to be a family picnic at the Batang Duri River in Temburong turned out to be a disaster when a family member disappeared in the water.

According to a police statement, a 60-year-old man of Malaysian national, Jenang Anak Bali, went missing while swimming in the river. Assistant Superintendent Police Muhammad Aimi Safwan bin Zalidin, an officer of the Crime Investigation and Traffic at the Temburong Police Station, explained a call was received at around 2:20 in the afternoon. The caller said that a man was missing while swimming at the Batang Duri River. The location was some 300 meters from Ulu Temburong. ASP Muhammad Aimi Safwan went on to say, the missing man is identified as Jenang Anak Bali, a green IC holder from Malaysia. Based on the report, the family had wrapped up a picnic and was about to leave the site. Some of the family members boarded a boat, while two men including Jenang Anak Bali swam in the river. However, the family realised the elder man was missing. An immediate search failed to locate him, and the family promptly called the police and fire and rescue department. An ongoing rescue is led by the Police Marine, Police Rangers, and the Fire and Rescue Department.
