The Brunei Islamic Banking and Finance Forum, BIBFF 2018 featured 12 speakers from government agencies and private organisations including Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam; SBI Islamic Fund (Brunei) Limited, Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei as well as Academia from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD dan Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA. The forum provided insights on the development of Islamic Banking and Finance in Brunei Darussalam. The one-day forum was organised by the Islamic Finance and Halal Marketing, IFHM, research cluster under the UBD School of Business and Economics.
Present was Associate Professor Doctor Mohd Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice Chancellor (of Academic Affair) at UBD. More than 60 participants comprises of regulators, industry players, researchers, academia and students attended the forum. Professor Ahmed Masood Khalid, Dean of UBD School of Business and Economic in his opening remark shared that ICD-Thomson Reuters Islamic Fiance Development Report 2017 ranked Brunei Darussalam among the top 10 performing Islamic finance markets. By the year 2020, the market share of Islamic banking and finance in the sultanate will grow to at least 50 percent of the total financial sector.
Meanwhile, Professor Dato Doctor Azmi Omar, President and Chief Executive Officer of International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance, INCEIF, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in a keynote address shared his views on the development of the islamic finance industry. He also presented insight for Brunei and the islamic finance industry in general. The forum was held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of establishment of Islamic Banking and Financial Industry in Brunei Darussalam.
