National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin has revealed three high-ranking officers whose names were nominated for the post of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) law enforcement deputy.
The deputy chief, however, only mentioned current positions of the high-ranking officers and did not specify their names.
“[There is] the West Nusa Tenggara Police chief, the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department [Bareskrim] operational bureau head and an officer currently assigned in the State Land Agency,” Syafruddin said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Syafruddin denied speculation that said current KPK investigation director Brig. Gen. Aris Budiman was among the submitted names for the next law enforcement deputy. According to several reports, he would return to the force soon for a promotion.
Aris, a high-ranking police officer seconded to the antigraft body, is currently under an internal ethics investigation for attending a hearing with the House of Representatives’ Special Inquiry Committee without the consent of KPK commissioners in August last year.
The National Police and the Attorney General’s Office have reportedly submitted 13 names to be considered for the KPK law enforcement deputy post, as well as investigation director. The previous law enforcement deputy, Insp. Gen. Heru Winarko, was inaugurated as the new head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Mar. 1. (swd)
