In outlining the proposed 2018/2019 budget, the Second Minister of Finance explained that the main focus directed to Prudent Spending, the government will continue to give attention to national socio-economic development efforts despite facing a volatile global oil market and challenging economic conditions.

Yang Berhormat said that the government's objective is clear, which is to achieve a long-term sustainable and viable national economy. Towards this, the government will continue to plan expenditures that are efficient, cost-effective or priorities spending without affecting efforts to enhance government service and productivity levels. At the same time, efforts to enhance revenue will also be prioritised by exploring effective new methods, apart from enforcing rules and regulations particularly collection of arrears. All these will require concerted efforts from all parties either in the public and private sectors.
