Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman has asked the people to give him a few more years to make poverty ‘zero’ in Sabah.

Musa said that the State Government was developing the entire Sabah, including the rural areas where incidence of poverty was prevalent.

He said the government had introduced the ‘Mini Sejahtera’ as its effort to reduce hardcore poverty in Sabah’s rural areas.

“And we can see that the hardcore poor has reduced.

“Give me a few more years, I will make poverty ‘zero’,” he said at the launch of the ‘Championing Sabah’s Digital Economy’ seminar yesterday.

In his speech, Musa also spoke of the Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED) and the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) which would be game changers for Sabah and would benefit all in the State.

He added that the Federal Government would be allocating RM500 million to the State for TAED and RM250 million for SICC.

SICC can accommodate 5,000 people at any one time. The development was also expected to create 10,000 jobs.

Musa reminded that Sabah is a beautiful State and stressed the need to develop it so that more business will come.

“(If) we are going to see more business, we must develop. It is our job. We must help one another and prosper together,” he said.

Musa also approved an allocation of RM1 million to the Industrial Development Ministry to carry out its digital economic development programmes.

“If it is not enough, come and see me,” he told Industrial Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Raymond Tan who was also present.

He added that he had set aside RM105 million in the budget and the allocation would be given to any ministries that were still in need of additional allocations.

The Chief Minister also shared that he was happy with the performance of the ministry, stating that in 2016, Sabah received RM3.13 billion in investments and created 5,154 jobs.

And between 2013 and June 2017, the accumulated investment value in the manufacturing sector was RM10.48 billion with 11,416 jobs created, he said.
