Two people were buried by a mudslide in Kampung Bonjot, Sindangkerta, West Bandung regency, West Java, on Monday.
The two were identified as Puja, 14, and his mother, Damah, 40, a local official said.
West Java National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) spokesman Joshua Banjarnahor said a joint team comprising personnel from Basarnas, the West Bandung Disaster Mitigation Agency, the Indonesian Military and related local authorities managed to recover Puja’s body at around 11 a.m.
The team had to halt the search at 4:30 p.m. because of heavy rain, he said.
Joshua added that the terrain, where the mudslide occurred, was still unstable and this could pose a risk to personnel who are searching for the second victim. “We will continue our operation tomorrow.”
The team said heavy rains in West Bandung since Sunday evening had caused the mudslide, which occurred at 6 a.m. on Monday.
The mudslide also engulfed four houses in Kampung Bonjot. (ebf)
