Spectacular photos of foreboding storm clouds hanging over the UK were taken as Britain braced for the most freezing day yet of this week’s cold snap.
Further disruption to transport services and schools is expected on Wednesday – and yes, even more snow is on its way.
Heavy snow is expected to fall overnight and into Wednesday morning in London and the south east, the midlands, the north of England and Scotland.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning, with warnings of a varying degree in place until at least Saturday.
It also warned that some rural communities could potentially become cut off by power cuts and disruption to mobile phone services.
Overnight, thermometers could dip as low as -10C in Scotland.
It is set to have an even greater impact on the roads and rail following an evening where commuters struggled to get home during rush hour.
Rail companies up and down the country have warned of more delays after a number of services were delayed or cancelled on Tuesday.
Great Northern and Southern advised passengers to complete journeys ‘as early as possible’ ahead of even more bad weather.
Meanwhile, motorists have been warned to take extra care when driving in snowy conditions.
Four people were killed in car crashes attributed to heavy snow.
The weather is not set to improve this week, prompting fears of Britain’s coldest spell in at least five years.
