BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Immediately after joining the Cycling Recreation, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took a closer look at the various activities included in the Bandarku Ceria programme around the capital.
The joy was clearly seen on the faces of the public when His Majesty got-together and interacted closely with them. Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.
His Majesty first visited the Institute Brunei Technical Education, IBTE Exhibition Booth organised by the Hydro Technology Campus. The local products produced by the campus itself were among the items showcased. The sale stalls also attracted the monarch's attention. For the vendors, His Majesty's visit was very meaningful. They took the opportunity to personally give thanks to His Majesty. A large number of the vendors were youths. This in itself, shows that youths are answering the government's call to explore entrepreneurship.
The activities and exhibitions conducted by relevant agencies around the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien area were among those included in this week's Bandarku Ceria programme. Among them was the Military Cross Fit activity conducted by the Ministry of Defence which showcased physical exercises that requires physical and mental endurance. The performance by the Military and Police Cadet Band from secondary schools in the country also grabbed the monarch's attention. His Majesty then conducted the band.
His Majesty also got-together with the young national players aged 12. The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam, NFABD berperanan plays a role in training youths to represent the country and produce more quality national football players.
The Brunei Youth Council showcased artworks produced by youths who are skilled in art. The sale of handicraft organised by the Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education showcased products and handicraft made by the pre-vocational students under the ministry. Such an activity proves that the students are able to become independent and venture into entrepreneurship. The creativity and skills possessed by them can help them obtain the necessary income to support themselves as well as their families and at the same time help to generate the country's economy.
His Majesty then took a look at Recycled Art booth from the Ministry of Development. One of the ways to save the earth from being ruined by garbage is through recycling programmes. Waste products can be revamped into something more beneficial through creative art. The traditional sport of martial arts was also not forgotten. The silat performance and silat clinic were among the contents of the Bandarku Ceria programme.
The National Road Safety Council, Ministry of Communications also held a Cycling and Road Safety Clinic. It was aimed to raise the public's awareness in particular road users to increase road safety in the country.
Even the heavy rain did not prevent the monarch from interacting with the National Service, PKBN participants and the public. Indeed, His Majesty is praised as a people's monarch, as per His Majesty's past titah, 'There is no dividing wall between the monarch and his subjects'.
Since its introduction in October 2016, the Bandarku Ceria programme continues to receive united support from various parties, especially vendors and the public wishing to fill their free time with weekend recreational activities with their families while enjoying the morning air. His Majesty's presence is a boost to the public's spirits to continue visiting and further enlivening the programme.
