Grand Assembly Of The 34th National Day Celebration

Brunei Darussalam's 34th National Day Celebration climaxed with a Grand Assembly participated by more than 30-thousand participants. The colourful ceremonial event was not only viewed live through Radio Television Brunei, but also can be followed by more than 168-thousand local and overseas audiences via RTB News Live Streaming at Social Media. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, joined the country's citizens and residents at the Grand Assembly held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday morning.

 

 The joy and cheers of the 34th National Day Celebration, is the manifestation of the love and loyalty to the monarch and nation. The presence of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the auspicious occasion boosted the spirit of the participants, particularly in refreshing their determination, vitalising the noble values and enhancing nationalism. The waving of miniature flags by students along the roadsides further glorified the atmosphere.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the Chairman of the celebration's Executive Committee as well as members of the Executive Committee.

 

 Also present were His Majesty's sons and brothers;

 

 - His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

 

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

 

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;

 

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

 

 - His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and

 

 - His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

 

 Traditionally, the assembly commenced with His Majesty consenting to inspect a guard of honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force.

 

This year's National Day celebration, which carries the theme, 'Menjayakan Wawasan Negara' or Accomplishing the National Vision, holistically emphasises for all the people, especially the youth to play their role in realising the Wawasan Negara 2035.

 

 Among the participants in the event was His Majesty's daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, who participated in the Cemerlang Team. The Grand Assembly began with a march-past, at the head of which was a giant-sized national flag brought in by a team of National Flag Bearers. The National Flag is a symbol of the nation's identity, sovereignty, solidarity and national unity.

 

 138 teams involving some 23 thousand participants took part in the march-past which was divided into 15 clusters namely National Security, Bestari Community, Civil Service, Socio-Economy, Post-Secondary Education, Secondary Education, Private Education, Mosque Takmir, Professional Associations, Youth Movement, Women's Movement, Sports Association, General Association, General Community and the team of excellent achievers.

 

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces which is entrusted with maintaining the country's security and defence, participated with members of its various units. At the parade, more than one thousand of its personnel participated. The Royal Brunei Police Force responsible in keeping peace and harmony of the citizens and residents of the country was also among the teams with the greatest number of participants in the march-past with more than 9-hundred personnel. The Grand Assembly is an important moment that gathered people from all walks of life nationwide. More than 23-thousand people took part in the parade, reflecting the solid unity among the various ethnics' communities.

 

 In a titah in conjunction with this year's National Day, His Majesty emphasises that all the people play a role to advance themselves and increase efforts to generate the economy and development in accomplishing the Wawasan Negara. His Majesty, stressed that Government agencies should be efficient and wise in managing the country's resources. Human resource should always be given due attention. His Majesty said the country needs the commitment and united efforts of all parties including the private sector to ensure all plans can move rapidly to achieve their targets.

 

 In the international arena, Brunei Darussalam will continue to practise mutual respect and maintain good relations with other nations. The country will continue to address issues of interest to the international community such as the threats of terrorism and climate change.

 

 This year's celebration also saw 374 trainees of the National Service Programme, PKBN and 68 pupils from Mabohai Primary School and Pusar Ulak Primary School combining to perform the performance "Gerak Cergas" towards Wawasan Negara 2035, which stresses on the young generation's role in supporting the nation's independence and development towards achieving a developed nation status for the country by 2035. The event proceeded with a march-past by 81 teams from higher education institutions, colleges, schools, associations, civil society organizations, foreign associations and the team of excellent achievers.

 

 

In the National Day's Titah, His Majesty emphasised the importance of youth leading the country's development. His Majesty says the country needs the young generation to come forward to take the lead in development and give new life to all development efforts in the country. The Monarch also said the country's hope to step much further as a developed nation, should be carried out more by the young generation.

 

 His Majesty, in the titah, also called on the youth to take the opportunity to improve their capabilities through programmes offered either in the country or outside. The Monarch said, the youths should feel more called upon to lead voluntary organisations or companies. The Monarch believed that youths who are usually rich in new ideas should be brave to face the various challenges. 

 

Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah joined in the team of excellent achievers. Also joining the team was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar ibni His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. The team has managed to make the country proud and achieve success and recognition through several fields.

 

 The proclamation of the National Day pledge was led by Superintendent Pengiran Azizul Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Yusop, Superintendent of Fire and Rescue. This year's pledge proclamation group was also joined by 5 special needs youths. Their participation was evidence that special needs people can also contribute to their nation.

 

 Meanwhile, the resounding call of "Allahu Akbar", or Allah is Great led by Awang Helmi bin Haji Mohd Imran, a teacher from the Masin Secondary School.

 

 It is hoped that such ceremonial event, will continue to increase the determination of the citizens and residents in together upholding the country's aspiration in maintaining peace, prosperity and stability. The existing progress and achievement of the country is evidence of cooperation and unity between the government and the people. In gratitude, the people are urged to continue strengthening the noble nationhood and statehood characteristics while at the same time continuing efforts to ensure the smooth-running of national development.
