The family of Adelina Lisao, 21, a migrant worker who died in Malaysia allegedly because of severe abuse, has demanded compensation for their daughter's dubious employment. The family, who live in Ebi village, Oenino, South Timor Tengah regency, believe that Adelina never received her salary despite having worked since 2015.
“We demand that Adelina’s salary for three years be paid. Don’t justify withholding her salary because she was unregistered,” Adelina’s aunt Petronela Koa told The Jakarta Post while waiting for Adelina’s body to arrive at El Tari Airport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
“The amount of money does not matter. But it is still her right [to be paid],” she added.
The family has also reported two people who allegedly recruited and sent Adelina to work illegally in Malaysia. The two people in question have been arrested by the local police for forging Adelina's documents, who was reportedly only 17 years old when she was sent abroad. The forged documents indicate that Adelina was six years older that her actual age.
Adelina’s body is to be laid to rest on Sunday. (swd)
