PSG's Kylian Mbappe gets additional one-match ban for Ismaila Sarr tackle

PARIS

A difficult start to 2018 for Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe has continued after the France international was handed an additional match suspension for his red card in a 3-2 Coupe de la Ligue semifinal win away at Rennes last week.

Mbappe, 19, has already missed a few matches since the start of the year after colliding with Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes during the defeat at Groupama Stadium and he then sat out last weekend's Ligue 1 victory away at Lille as the result of his first career dismissal in Brittany.

However, the Ligue de Football Professionnel's disciplinary committee has decided that Mbappe's foul on Ismaila Sarr at Roazhon Park merited further punishment.

Consequently, Les Parisiens' No. 29 will now miss the home clash with Strasbourg in Le Championnat next week, which follows the first leg of PSG's Champions League round-of-16 tie with Real Madrid.

Mbappe will not be Unai Emery's only missing player at Parc des Princes that day as Marco Verratti will also sit out the encounter with a ban.

The Italy international has picked up three yellow cards inside of 10 domestic matches, so has received an automatic one-game suspension that will come into effect next week.

In other news, PSG have been drawn at home to bitter rivals Marseille in the Coupe de France quarterfinals, meaning that there will be a Le Classiquedoubleheader at the end of this month, with the pair already meeting in Ligue 1 at Parc des Princes in a few weeks' time.
