(KPL) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith and his delegation attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Singapore on 6 February.
ASEAN Member States are currently working on two important documents, namely the “ASEAN Leaders’ Vision for a Resilient and Innovative ASEAN” and “Concept Note on the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN)” which will be submitted to the ASEAN Leaders for adoption at the 32nd ASEAN Summit to be held in April 2018.
During the Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers followed up on progress on the implementation of the outcomes of the 31st ASEAN Summit, and Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025, among others.
The retreat is the first gathering of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers hosted by Singapore during its 2018 Chairmanship.
Following ASEAN’s 50th anniversary milestone last year, the retreat was a useful and timely opportunity for the Foreign Ministers to discuss the way towards ASEAN Community.
The Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
At the meeting, Minister Saleumxay stressed the significance of enhanced cooperation to narrow the development gap among ASEAN member countries and regional connectivity. “These two activities are of great importance to economic integration in the region,” said Mr Saleumxay.
The minister also emphasized the promotion of ASEAN role in the world community and in the changing regional structure.
