Seven Students Detained For Fighting

 January 31st, 2018  |  08:59 AM  |   2241 views

SANDAKAN

Police detained seven students after a video clip recording of a few teenagers, some in school uniforms, fighting at Harbour Square here has gone viral.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident, but the 52-second video clip recorded by a passer-by had over a few thousands hits (views) before it was removed from Facebook.

An official police report was lodged on Monday over the incident and the police had identified the seven male students from two secondary schools here.

All the students, aged between 15 to 17 years old, had their statements recorded at the police station yesterday and were released on the same day.

According to Sandakan police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin, the fight was believed to have started when one student uploaded a picture of students from another school on the WeChat application and the picture was being made fun of by a group of his friends.

The fight started when the students from different schools met up last Friday at around 1pm at Harbour Square here, where they physically attacked each other.

“School liaison officer from the Sandakan police station for both schools, and the criminal investigation department officers met the school principals and discipline teachers of both schools to determine the action to be taken against the students,” Azhar said.

Further investigation is being carried out under Section 147 of the Penal Code.
