BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Everything that lives will die because death is decreed by Allah the Almighty and no one can run away from it. Thinking of, or remembering death is Sunnah Muakkadah, meaning it is almost obligatory to do so. There is also a reminder saying those who never think of death would be losers in this life and the Hereafter. Remembering death was the topic of today's Khutbah or Friday sermon. The sermon advised the congregants not to delay repentance and performing religious obligations and other acts of faith because no one knows when death would come. Do not be negligent because of wealth, rank, children and other worldly matters.
In the sermon, the Imam or prayer leader said, thinking of death would prevent one from committing sins and other bad deeds as well as being too engrossed with worldly matters. The prayer leader added it was wrong to think when a person is young, healthy and strong, death would not come visiting to take one to the next life. Remember the many people who have died unexpectedly in fires, road accidents, drowning and other mishaps. Therefore do not be misled or become complacent with life in this world, but prepare for death by performing religious obligations and other acts of devotion to Allah the Almighty. The prayer leader said thinking of death leads to remembering Allah the Almighty, so pray to Allah for a good ending in this life and in the Hereafter.
