His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the 69th Republic Day of India Celebration, which took place at Rajpath, New Delhi.
Upon arriving, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India and was then invited to the special day to join other ASEAN Heads of State and Government to witness the 69th Republic Day of India Celebration.
The celebration commenced with the playing of the national anthem of the Republic of India and a twenty-one (21) gun salute. This was later followed by the grand parade, which started from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill, passing through Rajpath and finishing at the India Gate, involving the marching contingents from the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy; the Police Force, as well as the Indian National Cadet Corps and other uniformed groups.
The event also showcased the cultural diversity and heritage of India and the guest countries as well as a motorcycle performance by the Border Security Forces and an airshow. Republic Day of India is celebrated annually on 26th January to honour the Constitution of India, as it was implemented on the same date in the year 1950. This year's Republic Day of India celebration marks the first time in India's history that such an event was attended by all the ASEAN Heads of State and Government, as Guests of Honour.
