Disposing Garbage at A Public Place

A company has been handed a compound fine after being found disposing garbage at a public car park area and a storage area for flammable gas cylinders within the vicinity of the business area near Bangunan Abd Razak At Jalan Kubah Makam Diraja in the capital.

 

 

 

Syarikat Pengda Sendirian Berhad was handed a 200-dollar compound fine under section 12(1) (a) for dumping garbage at a public place. The company has been given 7 days to settle the fine.

 

Business owners and the public are reminded that it is an offence under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12 to dump, dispose, or leave things at public places or land without valid permission, and can be subjected to a compound fine of not more than five hundred dollars. Individuals who fail to settle the fine can be brought before the court and if found guilty, can be fined 1 thousand dollars for the first offence, while for the second and subsequent offences, can be handed a 3-thousand dollar fine and 3 months imprisonment. The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department's enforcement agency will continue to carry out checks at areas under the department's jurisdiction, and will take immediate actions against those found violating the act.
