BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Islam advocates that its ummah or followers to help each other in doing acts of piety and good deeds. This in turn would create a deep sense of respect and affection towards one another. Giving sadaqah or alms to the needy is among the ways to achieve the goal. According to the Khutbah or Friday sermon, giving alms helps in avoiding misfortune and bad incidents. Sadaqah given with sincere intention is the best deed.
In the sermon, the Imam or prayer leader said only alms given sincerely would be accepted as an act of piety and gain rewards from Allah the Almighty. There are ten rewards for giving alms, five in this world and five more in the Hereafter. The five rewards in this world are, giving alms purifies one property or assets, purifies the body, keeps away misfortunes and sickness, brings happiness to the poor and needy as well as brings blessings to the property. In the Hereafter, the rewards are Allah's protection on the Day of Reckoning, lessening of the burden of sins, increased rewards, safe passage to Heaven and an elevated status in it.
