Large Japanese manufacturers' business sentiment in December improved from the last quarter, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) said in a report on Friday.
In the central bank's quarterly Tankan survey, the index reflecting confidence among large manufacturers stood at plus 25, rising 3 points from the September survey.
The confidence index for large non-manufacturers including the service sector was flat at plus 23, the BOJ said.
The BOJ's quarterly Tankan survey is regarded by economists as Japan's most closely watched gauge of business sentiment.
The current diffusion indexes reveals the percentage of companies reporting favorable business conditions outweigh those reporting unfavorable environments.
