A Dusun policewoman officially embraced Islam yesterday during a conversion ceremony held to coincide with the Israk Mikraj celebrations.

After a formal declaration of the Syahadah (profession of faith), 23-year-old Roz Erahafidah binti Abdullah @ Jubli took Ros Erahafidah binti Abdullah @ Jubli as her new Muslim name.

The second of six siblings, Ros Erahafidah currently works at the FIR Division (First Information Report) at the Tutong Police Station.

She chose for the conversion ceremony to be held at her father's Kampong Biong Pancuran Layong home in Tutong, although most of her family currently resides in the Brunei-Muara District.

Ros Erahafidah told the Bulletin that she had wanted to embrace Islam for some time, having already learnt about it in detail while at school.

Following her declaration of faith, Ros Erahafidah was presented with souvenirs by Datin Hajah Rosminah binti Haji Abdul Hamid, the wife of the Royal Brunei Police Commissioner. This was then followed by the recital of the Dikir Marhaban and the sprinkling of scented flowers.

YB Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Awang Haji Othman bin Uking and YB Awang Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit, who are both members of the Legislative Council, were present at the conversion ceremony. Also in attendance were Dato Paduka Seri Haji Bahrin bin Mohd Noor, the Royal Brunei Police Force Commissioner; and Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, the Acting Tutong District Officer.

According to the Dakwah Division of the Islamic Conversion Unit, a total of 58 people in the Tutong District have formally embraced Islam since January this year.
