The country has achieved another important milestone in the field of Foreign Direct Investment. Western Foods and Packaging Sendirian Berhad (WFP), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Turkey-based Marsa Yag Sanayi Ve Ticaret AS or Marsa, and a leading oil and fats manufacturing company from Turkey, opened its manufacturing plant at the Serasa Industrial Area. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office THIS MORNING officiated the opening ceremony. Its opening represents another achievement for the country towards economic diversification and also provides employment opportunities to locals.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was welcomed by Yang Behormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abd. Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Officer and Second Minister of Finance as Chairman of Foreign Investment and Downstream Industry Steering Committee; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development as the Chairman of the Strategic Development Capital Fund (SDC); and Mr. Ali ULKER, Vice Chaiman of YILDIZ HOLDING.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

Mr. Ali Ulker, the Vice Chairman of YILDIZ HOLDING, in his welcoming speech shared on WFP's establishment history and achievements. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince viewed a video presentation on WFP plant's establishment. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince then launched the WFP manufacturing plant and signed the plague marking the launching ceremony.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince then received a pesambah. Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was also invited to view the WFP exhibitions and manufacturing operations of margarine. WFP was established in 2011 and aims to expand its presence within the Asian region, Australia, New Zealand and globally. The plant began its production earlier this month and is capable of producing 200 tonnes of margarine per day on 1.9 hectares of land at the Serasa Industrial Site. The products are Halal-certified by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) to serve the growing global market demand for quality Halal food products.

WFP currently provides employment to 72 locals which represent 96 per cent of the company's total workforce. WFP is also looking into downstream opportunities for its products which can be used as ingredients to make biscuits, chocolates, pastries and ice cream. The plant's by-products can be used as chicken feed and to make soap and detergent. WFP's products will also be the first margarine and edible oil products to be exported out of Brunei Darussalam.

Marsa is leading oil and fats manufacturing company from the Republic of Turkey. Marsa's shareholders include Yildiz Holding, one of Turkey's leading food conglomerates, as majority owner and the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the SDC Fund under the Ministry of Finance. Marsa is one of Turkey's Pioneers of food production since 1926. Today, Marsa exports to over 65 countries spanning five continents.
