Joko Saptono, the head of the Bau-Bau District Court in the Buton Islands, Southeast Sulawesi, was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday morning after an alleged suicide attempt.

He was found by his wife inside their bedroom at their house in Wolio subdistrict, Bau-Bau, at 2 a.m. on Tuesday with slit wrists and an abdominal wound.

Joko was immediately taken to Buton Siloam Hospital for intensive treatment.

“We were really concerned about what happened to him and it was suspected that this incident was triggered by his severe depression,” Supreme Court spokesperson Abdullah said on Wednesday.

“We hope he will get well soon so the motive and chronology of the incident can be revealed.”
